Play Rummy online with friends
13-card Indian Rummy, the way you play it at home — in a private room with just your friends. You choose the house rules. It's free and purely for fun: no deposits, no betting, no real money.
How to play Indian Rummy
Arrange all 13 of your cards into valid melds and declare before anyone else.
- Your turn: draw one card — from the closed deck or the open pile — then discard one card.
- Build melds as you go. A sequence is 3 or more cards of the same suit in order (5♥ 6♥ 7♥). A set is 3 or 4 cards of the same rank in different suits (9♠ 9♦ 9♣).
- Jokers are wild. They can stand in for any card. A sequence with no joker is a pure sequence.
- Declare when the rest of your hand forms valid melds: pick your 14th card as the finishing card and show your hand.
- Scoring: the winner scores 0. Everyone else scores the cards they couldn't meld — A, K, Q, J and 10 count 10, number cards their face value, jokers 0 — up to a maximum of 80. Lowest total wins.
The classic declaration rule: you need at least two sequences, one of them pure. Without a pure sequence, every card in your hand counts against you.
Your house rules
Every family plays rummy a little differently, so the host sets the rules before dealing:
- Which melds count: sequences only, or also triplets (three of a kind) and/or four of a kind.
- Jokers: no jokers, printed jokers only, a cut joker only (one card is turned face up and every card of that rank is wild), or both.
- Declaring: require a pure sequence or not, and need 1 or 2 sequences.
- Scoring: points rummy (play as many rounds as you like) or pool rummy — players are out at 101 or 201, and the last one standing wins.
How Rummy works on deckofcardgames
- Drag your cards to arrange them, or sort by suit or rank with one tap.
- Wild cards are marked with a ★, and the card you just drew is highlighted.
- The game checks your declaration for you. If it isn't valid yet, it tells you what's missing instead of penalising you.
- At the end of each round everyone's hand is shown, arranged into its best melds, with the points for each player.
- With more players, extra decks are added automatically so the stock never runs short.
Rummy tips
- Make your pure sequence first. It's required, and it stops your whole hand counting against you.
- Throw high cards early if they aren't working — a stray K or Q costs 10 points if someone declares.
- Watch the open pile. What your neighbour picks up tells you what they're collecting — don't feed it to them.
- Keep jokers for the hard gaps, like the middle of a sequence or a set you can't finish otherwise.
Rummy FAQ
Is this real-money rummy?
No. deckofcardgames is only for playing with friends for fun. There are no deposits, no cash games and no betting of any kind.
Can I play rummy with sequences only?
Yes. Turn off triplets and four of a kind in the room settings, and only sequences will count as melds.
How many decks are used?
One deck for small tables. As more players join, the game adds a second or third deck automatically.
What is a cut joker?
At the start of each round one card is turned face up. Every card of that rank becomes wild for the round, along with any printed jokers if they're switched on.
