How to play 10-card rummy
- Everyone is dealt 10 cards. One card starts the open pile; the rest form the closed deck.
- On your turn, draw one card from the deck or the open pile, then discard one.
- Group your cards into sequences (3+ cards of one suit in order, like 8♣ 9♣ 10♣) and, if the host allows them, sets (3 or 4 of a kind in different suits).
- When all your other cards are melded, choose your last card and declare. A typical winning hand is 3 + 3 + 4 cards.
- Everyone else scores their unmelded cards (face cards, aces and 10s count 10; jokers 0; max 80). Lowest total wins.
10-card vs 13-card rummy
- Shorter rounds: with fewer cards to arrange, players declare sooner — great for a quick game on a break.
- Fewer decks: up to 3 players share a single deck (13-card rummy needs two decks from 3 players).
- Same house rules: sequences only or with triplets and four of a kind, any joker setup, pure sequence required or not, and points or pool scoring.
